At 1300 Great Smile, we offer dental veneers in the comfort of our Joondalup office. Many patients are opting for dental veneers over more expensive procedures or surgical options to improve the appearance of their teeth. Usually, they are used on upper front teeth that are crooked, chipped or severely discoloured. The application of veneers is painless and only requires a few visits.
Veneers are available in two types: resin-based composite and ceramic or porcelain, often called laminates.
Resin-based composite veneers are usually completed in one session. The dentist prepares the tooth and reshapes it. Then, the composite material is shaped and bonded to the tooth in a colour that is a match for your other teeth. A high intensity light is used to harden the material. The veneer is then smoothed and polished until it looks like a natural tooth.
Porcelain or Ceramic Laminate
These are thin shells that are constructed out of a durable, strong dental ceramic. A small amount of enamel is removed from the sides and front of the tooth to make room for the laminate. This ensures that the repaired tooth will the same size as the rest. Then, an impression is made of the prepared teeth so that perfect duplicates can be made in the laboratory.
The dentist finds the shade that matches your other teeth and sends the impressions to a laboratory. It can take several days, but the veneers will match your teeth perfectly. When the dentist receives the veneers, they will be fitted to your teeth and adjusted to fit correctly. Then, they are bonded to your teeth with dental cement. If further adjustments are needed, they are performed in subsequent appointments.
Are Veneers Right for You?
To be eligible for veneers, your teeth should be free of decay and otherwise healthy. Once a veneer is fitted, it is not reversible. Veneers are not recommended if you grind or clench your teeth.
