We provide general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry in Joondalup. We offer services such as dental veneers, teeth whitening and dental implants, among many other services regarded as cosmetic dentistry. We have noticed that when people call our Joondalup office, they often don’t know about some of the latest advances in cosmetic dentistry. For many, this will be old news, but we thought it would be nice to give a quick overview of some procedures that weren’t all that popular a while ago.
Teeth whitening is offered at numerous locations in Joondalup, but we always recommend going to a dentist. Dentists use a few different techniques. One of the less common techniques is to use a gel with a high concentration of peroxide, combined with heat from a light source such as a laser.
Another, more popular technique is to create a plastic tray using a model of your teeth. The dentist then provides you with a low-strength gel to use at home in the tray. Some dentists like to get you off to a “head start” by applying a high-strength gel at the office for your initial treatment. Both versions of this method are more popular and less expensive than the first method.
Micro-abrasion is used to remove discolouration from the superficial surface of the enamel. An acid paste containing abrasive elements is used to remove the entire superficial surface.
Bonding is a process that is used to fill gaps between teeth or to repair damaged or chipped teeth. The surface of the teeth are prepared and then the dentist applies tooth coloured resin to them. If they discolour, they can be easily replaced with no further damage to the teeth.
Veneers are layers of porcelain, only 0.5mm thick, that are bonded to the superficial layer of the teeth. Veneers can change the shape or colour of the teeth and can mask small chips and stains.
