Any good dentist, in Joondalup and across Australia, is a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA). The ADA is a clearinghouse for all things related to dental health, both for patients and for doctors. One of the great things they do is lend their support to research that helps us provide better dental services to our patients.
The ADA, along with Colgate and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), in conjunction with federal, regional and state health departments, will be helping to sponsor the study conducted by the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health(ARCPOH), located at the University of Adelaide. The study will be called the National Study of Adult Oral Health and will cost approximately $5.8 million.
The study will take place between now and 2018. The intent of the study is to chart the incidence of oral diseases in the adult population and the equity, sustainability and effectiveness of dental services across Australia.
The study will also revisit and monitor 5500 patients from a study conducted in the previous decade, which was published under the name “Australia’s Dental Generations.”
How this Study can Improve Dental Services
By documenting the incidence and outcomes of oral diseases and dental care, we can find out what is working and what isn’t in our profession. It is crucial that everyone has access to adequate dental care and has a chance to go through life in a state of good dental health.
When you go to your dentist in Joondalup or any Perth suburb, you may take it for granted that you are getting great care. If you come to either of our two locations, you will receive the finest care possible. But often, the quality of and access to great dental care can be affected by location.
