If you have crooked teeth or are experiencing problems with your bite, you may need your teeth straightened with dental braces. There are a variety of braces which are used for different situations. Here is some basic information that we hope will be helpful to you.
Traditional Metal Braces
These are the most common choice for teenagers. They are used for those who have any kind of alignment problem, from crooked teeth to overbite or underbite. They are by far the most popular choice for those who need extensive correction to straighten their teeth.
They are the standard “braces” you see on most teenagers, mounted on the front of each tooth and connected by a wire. Every month, the wire is replaced, pulling the teeth straighter into line.
These function almost exactly like traditional metal braces, but they are coloured much more like the teeth. They also cost more. If you want to see less metal but get the same results, ceramic braces are a great choice.
These are like traditional dental braces, but they are mounted on the inside of the teeth. This means that almost nobody sees them. They are a popular choice for adults who don’t want to show braces. They are also a little less intense than regular braces, so they take longer to do the job.
Lingual braces also make it more difficult to provide yourself with good oral hygiene. They can affect your speech and irritate your tongue due to their positioning.
Invisalign is the preferred choice for adults and for teenagers who don’t need intense, extensive straightening of teeth. They are invisible, making them the best choice for those who don’t want to show braces to the public. They are also removable, making oral hygiene easier and allowing you to enjoy eating a lot more. They do cost a bit more, though.
