At 1300 GREAT SMILE, we are known for providing emergency dental service in Joondalup and nearby Perth suburbs. We are open seven days a week except on public holidays in case you need us. But did you know there is almost always something you can do in any dental emergency to make your treatment go better? Here’s what to do:
Fractured or Broken Tooth
If you break a tooth and expose the nerve, you will know immediately because it will hurt to breathe. If you are lucky, it will only be a “cosmetic dental emergency” in which the nerve isn’t exposed. Either way, you need to have it addressed by a dentist immediately. During the time before you make it to the dentist, make sure to rinse with warm water and keep the area as clean as you possibly can. A cold compress will help with pain.
Tooth Knocked Out
If your tooth is knocked out, you must find it and rinse it immediately. Be sure to remove any debris or dirt. If you can implant the tooth back in its hole, that is the best solution. If you can’t, put it in milk to help save it. Either way, go to the dentist immediately. Your dentist will implant it back into the hole and splint it onto an adjacent tooth to keep it stable. Keep checking back with the dentist until it is fully healed.
This is an indication that something is wrong with the tooth. Call your dentist immediately. In the meantime, rinse gently with warm water.
This is always due to a severe infection called an abscess. It is important to get immediate dental treatment. The infection can be serious and even fatal if not addressed immediately.
